Clothes
That Work! is an organization that was founded by a group of eight women in
1998. The mission of the organization was to help women prepare for the
workforce and be successful inside it. They began providing business appropriate
attire to women to help them look appropriate for their interviews. Since the founding
of the organization, there has been an expansion in their mission and their clientele.
They now do not specifically help only women. They help anyone who needs
assistance in obtaining job attire and training for an office. They hold workshops
where they educate their clients on basic office etiquette. They offer workshops
on hygiene, clothing, manners and everything else to make a person successful
in a work environment. The organization puts on events to help the poor and
women. Their event “Fairy Godmother Project” gives high school aged girls a
chance to have a beautiful prom dress. Since these girls do not have the money
to buy a dress or accessories for themselves, this might be the only chance
they have to attend their prom. The dresses are all donated by people in the
community. Most of the funds raised are from the community and surrounding
businesses. The other large event that Clothes That Work! puts on is “Hunks-in-Heels.”
This event raises money for the clothing and training opportunity along with
confidence building for the clients of their organization. The event allows men
to put on heels and sometimes dresses and has them walk around and compete with
other men to be crowned Best Legs. 2019 is going to be their final lap for “Hunks-in-Heels.”
They work closely with businesses in Dayton to help the community and to get
funds to provide for their clients.
